ARTICLE THREE: USEFULNESS OF ETHNICITY IN INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER MARKETING Internationalization is the term that can characterize the current state of the consumer market in many parts of the world (Dillard, p. 25). The world of business has evolved into a market where there are accommodations necessary to appeal to a larger market and gain a larger market share. Identifying the ethnic identity of a target market can help with the promotion status and product design for mass distribution. This study will examine the implications in identifying the ethnic identity of Latino and Asian consumers in the apparel and retail industry. Research Question There have been previous studies in the past that have affirmed that ethnic identity contributes to the decision marking of Latino and Asian consumers. The first two hypotheses are taking that same logic and cross applying the methods to the cultures’ reactions to apparel shopping orientation and retail format preferences. The last four hypotheses are comparing the outcomes between strong and weak members of each ethnicity. It is assumed by past studies that strongly identified individuals stay with tradition and will follow the ways of their ancestors, whereas weakly identified individuals will likely conform to the new customs of the current place of occupancy and assimilate to the standard of living.
